Tobias Holt was born in East Berlin, Germany in 1978. His mother was absent in his life and he didn't know who she was until series of unfortunate events uncovered a startling family secret. Although he stayed with his father (Ludger Holt, aka: Emcee) when he was young, he was really raised by an aunt who had moved in with them in order to help raise him and provide the veneer of a societal norm as was necessary at the time to avoid suspicion, especially when your father was working for the Ministry of State Security (Stasi) and was helping the Baader-Meinhoff Group (a far-left terrorist organization) via official channels at the Stasi. His father ran a network of informers in both East and West Germany and also was deeply involved in spying/surveilling the public, not to mention getting rid of the class enemy, often West German sympathisers and operatives from over the wall. Living with a father who had a reputation for having highly developed Zersetzung skills to use against and silence political opponents with did not make Tobias' life very easy and impacted his early psychological development, under the stress which, he developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms and started to present with sociopathic personality traits. While his father taught him this technique he was, as a result, also subject to it until he was no longer affected by it.
His father, Ludger Holt, later had a change of political heart and began informing on the Stasi to the West Germans. He felt the noose of the Stasi starting to tighten around his throat, even as he kept up appearances and continued his official duties. He found refuge for him and his son in the unlikeliest of places, the Katakomb Kabaret, run by the brother of the founding members of the Baader-Meinhoff group, who housed resistance members, exiles, political refugees and intellectuals that spoke out against the government (the very people that Ludger would have 'taken care of' before his conversion). This was a stable moment in Tobias' life, where the bonds of loyalty and family were impressed upon him and his life revolved around more than just his father (he had a "cousin", "uncles", "aunts", not blood related, but close regardless. Of course, they were people that were hiding from the Stasi and therefore Tobias--to protect their identity and ensure his safety-- was just told that they were all "like family" and so, that's what it was). It was also a short-lived moment after which the Holt's and the Baader's had to be extracted to the United States as political asylum seekers running away from an imploding intelligentsia looking to clean up its crimes right after the fall of the Berlin Wall. If Tobias' criminality showed its stripes in Germany through his personality, then he really began to apply it and gain his criminal education in the United States. He started helping his father with protection rackets, blackmail and other, more violent, enterprises but found that his talent lay in financial matters. His lavish spending and parties drew in social, political, and criminal well-to-doers. He gained degrees in finance and financial law and then had stint working for a few international banks. But it's when he took over for a boutique private bank, Deutsche Commerzbank International, that he really took off. That it's nearly totally illegal? Prove it. | ![]() |
